(The Hero’s Journey)
Lucy is a Screen + Cultural Studies + Media + Communications grad, on the brink of life-post-institution. On one fateful flight from Melbourne to Adelaide, she realises that she has absolutely no idea what to do with her life, career and interests, and resolves to set out on a quest for self-discovery.
With this call to adventure (taking the form of “I guess…write more?”) firmly established, Lucy starts a blog with the goal of reviewing one film per week in 2020.
Will she ever actually show anyone her efforts? Will she give up sometime in February? Will she eventually meet a wise mentor, experience various trials, die and be reborn, etc.?
Stay tuned to find out.
The Rules
I will publish one review per week. The rule of thumb is that the films will be new films that I have watched within that week. This rule will definitely be broken.
I will rate things out of seven, an assessment method taught to me by my family, since five is not enough and ten is too many. If I don’t feel like rating something, I won’t.
The goal here is threefold:
- To spend more time writing and critically thinking about film.
- To build up a portfolio, so that one day when I try and make money from these skills (hahahahaha), a potential recruiter can come and peruse at their leisure.
- To finally watch all those movies that people yell at me when I reveal I haven’t seen, e.g. The Godfather (I know!!).
If I think of a better name, I’ll go with that.
What People Say
Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.
Norman Vincent Peale
Wow. This is impressive and shows creativity, tenacity, passion and experience. I’m 100% sold.
Hypothetical future employer
Maybe I should have shelled out for the premium WordPress layout.
